If you’re a PR student – or if you work with or mentor one – the place to be in early March is downtown Chicago for The Loop, a 360-Degree Approach to Public Relations conference on March 7 and 8. The don’t-miss two-day PRSSA regional conference will be hosted by the Columbia College Chicago Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter and will highlight the four largest media components of the PR landscape: traditional, digital, lifestyle, and new/interactive media.
Supporting future practitioners is the best way to nurture and shape our industry, and the conference, which is hosted by and for public relations students, will provide opportunities for students to network, learn, compete, and develop their skills.
Speakers include pros from Weber Shandwick, The Onion, the Chicago Cubs, and BurrellesLuce’s very own Tressa Robbins, who will run the session “Media Relations: Traditional, Digital, Social,” which will offer an inside look at the changing media landscape and how PR practitioners can generate momentum and trust through quality content and relationship-building with the media. Tressa is currently the president of the St. Louis chapter of PRSA and a mentor for students in PRSSA. Earlier this year, PRNewser named Tressa one of the top PR “twits” to follow in 2014, and she is also the professional advisor for Southeast Missouri State University’s PRSSA chapter, serves on Southeast’s Mass Media Department Professional Advisory Council, and is teaching a special topics course on blogging this semester.
The first day of the conference will feature agency tours and a case study competition sponsored by Ogilvy, and the second day will be filled with sessions hosted by PR pros. Encourage students at your local PRSSA chapter to register now for The Loop!
